19th Annual Beat Beethoven Run

Run and Hum at the same time. It’s the 19th Annual Beat Beethoven Run hosted by Harvest House in partnership with the Running Room. The runs will take place on Saturday, Oct 30, 2010 and start at the Canadian War Museum. There will be a 4 km, 8 km and 21 km race.

Harvest House is a residential rehabilitation program for men who are chemically dependent on drugs and/or alcohol.  A not for profit organization, Harvest House is 100% funded by the public and provides a safe environment for its residents to rehabilitate their body, mind and soul.

Just like addiction recovery, long-distance running is a ‘one step at a time’ undertaking that requires patience and perseverance. Training for a race is a terrific complement to the road to recovery, as it requires commitment, dedication and a change in lifestyle. Our residents also benefit from the increased determination and self-control, as well as the group bond that develops as they support each other in their fitness objectives.

All proceeds will go to benefit the programs of Harvest House.

Additional race details and registration forms are also available at Running Room.

19th Annual Beat Beethoven Race Route Description

The course starts on Wellington Street at Vimy Place in front of the War Museum and heads west on the Ottawa River Parkway to just before Island Park Drive, where runners are diverted through the parking lot, under the Champlain Bridge and onto the recreational pathway.  The 8K runners turn around about 350 metres (approximately) west of the bridge, turn around and head back to the finish.

The half marathon continues along the pathway past Deschenes Rapids Lookout and diverts westbound towards Britannia and takes the pathway past Britannia Beach.  The 10K mark is just before the Belltown Dome arena and the half marathon turnaround is at a point about 75 metres past Kempster Street (Kempster Street runs between Carling Avenue and ends just before the pathway).
