Skills Development Centre
In
recovery, getting sober is not enough. Developing
work skills and learning work ethics are all key
components of the Harvest House philosophy.
In addition to providing rehab,
Harvest House runs a Skills Development Centre
that prepares the residents with the necessary
living and working skills to build productive
lives in society. The majority of the men who
come to Harvest House are homeless, uneducated
and have no life skills. It is the belief of the
Harvest House community that individuals in the
program need to change their lifestyle through
a relationship with Jesus Christ, learn to work
hard, and acquire new skills that would enable
them to successfully gain employment and have
a normal productive life.
This workshop provided more
individuals opportunities to learn a wide array
of skills that included graphic design, computer
technology, laminating, printing, pen making,
painting and furniture making. Other components
of the program included arts and crafts such as
stained glass, pad printing and art classes. In
addition to the workshop, residents are offered
opportunities to further their skills in data
entry, office administration, bookkeeping and
sales.
Graduates of the program who
have benefited from the Skills Development Centre
have pursued successful careers as master carpenters,
graphic artists, contractors and a variety of
woodworking jobs. |
